And finally the piste de resistance: Trekell said he has received e-mails from people "as they are crying at their computers and students just enraged and vowing vengeance." Crying at your computer just because someone won't pat you on the head and call you a "good boy" for sodomizing your buddy? Give me a break. That last part gives me a little concern, though. Vengeance? In what form? If it's a political effort to sway public sentiment, then that's their First Amendment right. But if it's something else, they'd better cool their heels and get a grip. .

Canon 40D Review
The test lab over at our review partner Digital Trends published a review of the Canon 40D Review SLR Camera. The Canon EOS 40D scored an Editor's Choice Award. Quote from the review: "Late last year Canon released the EOS 40D, a 10-megapixel D-SLR targeted to serious photographers since it costs north of $1,000 USD for the body alone. Add a few lenses and accessories, the next thing you know youve hit $2K. This camera is targeted for anyone looking at the older 10-megapixel Nikon D80 or the newer 12.2MP Sony alpha DSLR-A700, a camera I liked a great deal. In other words, its for those more than willing to go beyond Auto and make the most of a sophisticated imaging capture device (a.k.a camera)." Read the full Canon 40D Review. .
Hank and Tex in the house
Sure, they could have them in Atlanta, but abundant sunshine, golf and private jets make this quick trip south a pretty attractive option for a meeting space. Teixeira is signing autographs as I write this, as about half of the fans in attendance at this morning workout scrambled for a place in line next to the dugout as soon as they saw the first baseman emerge. Anyway, there's no update whatsoever on a possible Teixeira contract extension. Braves aren't talking about it, and neither is agent Scott Boras. And by the way, Teixeira laughed when I asked him about the rumored rift between him and Boras. "Scott and I have a great relationship," he said. "We talk about once a week." And one other thing: Teixeira is not building a house in Atlanta.
Obama faces fire from Clinton, McCain
In what could be a preview of the general election, the two exchanged jabs over Iraq and the economy, sure to be key issues in November. McCain criticized the Democrats for speaking in "platitudes" about Iraq. "The Democrats wanted to leave and set a date for withdrawal and said we could never succeed militarily. Look at the record ... not the rhetoric, not the platitudes, but the principles and the philosophy," he said. McCain later took aim directly at Obama for lacking specifics. "I respect him and the campaign he has run," McCain said. "But there is going to be time when we have to get into specifics, and I have heard not every speech he has given obviously, but they are singularly lacking in specifics, and that's when as the campaign moves forward, we will be portraying very stark differences." Those comments are among McCain's most pointed attack at Obama to date, a clear sign the Republican nominee apparent is increasingly viewing the Illinois senator as the Democratic front-runner.

'It just feels like I don't exist anymore'
As the city slept on a cold Wednesday morning, Jayme Spinks was still at the drawing board, pulling an all-nighter on an overdue design job. Ms. Spinks, 24, thought nothing of the sirens, at least not at first. She'd lived on Queen Street West for almost two years and was used to them. But, as the swirling red lights bled through her third-storey blinds, something compelled her to go down to the street and have a look. "Clearly, the place was on fire," she said of the address four doors east, "and there was a lot of smoke coming out of it. Enough to bother me." Back upstairs, she changed out of her pyjamas, gathered her cat and a few belongings and left, planning to return once the fire was out. She didn't realize those items would be all she owned by the end of the day, when she sat in her mother's rec room in Belleville, watching herself on TV, gazing at the flattened remains of her material life.
