| Candidates Urge Voter Turnout in Iowa
The only thing that counts is whether or not you show up to caucus," Democrat Barack Obama told a fired-up crowd of young and old packed into a high school gymnasium. Amid murmurs of "Amen!" at a pizza parlor in Sergeant Bluff, Republican Mike Huckabee urged hundreds: "Don't go alone. Take people with you. Fill up your car. Rent a van. Hijack your church's bus, whatever you've got to do to get people to the caucus who are going to vote for me." Candidates made the pitch repeatedly as they canvassed the state for Thursday's caucuses, the first votes of the presidential nominating process. At least 130,000 Democrats and 80,000 Republicans are expected to participate in 1,781 neighborhood meetings at schools, fire stations and community centers across Iowa on what is forecast to be a clear but cold night.
Poisoned dumplings put child in coma
China's exports have come under intense scrutiny in the past year after a number of potentially deadly chemicals were found in goods including toothpaste, toys, pet food and seafood. China's government launched a four-month campaign last August to improve the quality of Chinese products and restore international confidence in its goods. Officials termed the campaign a success. A Little Bit Country a Lot Glam on the CMA Red Carpet
It was jeans for some (Kid Rock, of course) and gowns for others at last night's 41st Annual Country Music Awards in Nashville, Tennessee. Nicole Kidman definitely brought the most bang to the red carpet in her bold dress — sure it looks a little like one of those cheesy college dorm felt-y posters, but it's not like she can't pull it off. Carrie Underwood looked typically great while fellow former Idol-er Kellie Picker looked surprisingly demure for her. I must admit that Kate Walsh looked pretty smokin', finding a way to be on our ABC Wednesday night even when Private Practice was preempted for these awards. Fab wants to know what you think about all the red carpet looks — check out her love it or hate its. Meanwhile, Bella's all interested in what you think about everyone's beauty, so check her polls out here.
Heyman Hustle Sneak Peek: Lesbian Controversy and Hype
With a week to go before its premiere on The UK Sun, former Extreme Wrestling owner Paul Heyman's new project, NewsCorp's first Hi-Def wireless/broadband digital project "The Heyman Hustle" is already in the midst of controversy. Heyman, whose knack for pushing the envelope landed him constantly in trouble with networks and sports channel stations in the 1990's, showed up at the cast party for the season premiere of CBS Network's "Survivor" at the W Hotel Times Square in midtown Manhattan. .
Olympus Stylus 770 SW digital camera
The Olympus Stylus 770 SW is rugged and reasonably good looking. And that's pretty much where the praise runs out. The 7.1-megapixel camera is designed for rough outdoor use, with a sealed housing that's shockproof, freeze-proof, and crush-proof, and waterproof to depths of 33 feet to boot. It even has a manometer, which records the depth or altitude at which a photo was shot. The waterproof part is no gimmick, as the camera shrugged off repeated dunkings in salt water on a couple of kayak expeditions. If we had the time to go to Alaska, it no doubt also would have laughed at repeated drops onto the frozen tundra. Downsides? In Macworld jury tests, the camera did receive Good ratings across the board, but many shots came out soft and overexposed, and there's little room to override the camera's decisions.
Poor Teddy Riley: No Pun Intended
Poor Teddy Riley: The title of this writing sounds harsh... or like I am taking shots at Mr. Riley, but I am not. It is quite the opposite actually... see, I know duke. I have been to Teddy Riley's house, I have been in his studio, I have been on his extravagant tour bus, and heck, I have even talked to his daughter, Deja. Before I jump headfirst into this literature, let me bring you up to speed on the Teddy drama, in case you have not already heard. Headlines and online news sources everywhere have been running rampant with information that Teddy Riley is in a sea of serious financial trouble, drowning in a mounting debt of over a million dollars. It has been reported that Teddy is being forced to sell his famed recording spot in Virginia, Future Records Recording Studio, to pay off aggressive creditors.
