Foe of pipeline finds plot in lost notebook Notes: 'Ignore negative ...
With several witnesses looking on, including one with a digital camera, Southern Nevada Water Authority staff member Andy Belanger removed the rubber band from the padded notebook and carefully removed its contents. One by one, each document, map and handwritten note was run through a photocopier and returned to its place in the notebook. When a page was copied incorrectly, the duplicate was shown to the witnesses so they could see what it was before it was torn in half and thrown away. The process took more than 15 minutes and was executed with the care of election workers or crime scene investigators. Watching from the doorway of the copy room, a water authority official couldn't help but laugh. "It's not often we have a whodunit," he said. .

IT Best Buy Shines Brightly as CompUSA Fades Away
When it comes to the realm of consumer electronics, Best Buy is the reigning retail leader. Best Buy's market dominance was made even clearer with the company's fiscal 2008 Q3 earnings report. Best Buy reported a 52% increase in its Q3 profits compared to the same period one year ago. In addition, overall quarterly revenue rose 17% from $8.5 billion USD to $9.9 billion USD thanks to 45 new store openings during the quarter. Revenue from Best Buy's online division helped the total with a 65% increase from fiscal 2007 Q3. Not surprisingly, Best Buy attributed an extra week of after Thanksgiving revenue for its stellar third quarter performance. Hot items for Best Buy during Q3 included consoles, flat-panel TVs, notebook computers and GPS units. When all was said and done, Best Buy's sales mix for the third quarter was 41%, 28%, 19%, 6% and 6% respectively for Consumer Electronics, Home Office, Entertainment Software, Appliances and Services.
Price of school survival
It costs the two parishes $3,450 per pupil to run their schools, but that figure is so far beyond the reach of most surrounding families that they charge just $2,500 - and then give scholarships to 55 percent of their youngsters. The schools, which twinned under a single administration two years ago, are turning to a fund-raising technique increasingly popular with parish schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. They are asking their parishioners, alumni, individuals and organizations to help boost enrollment by "adopting" a youngster's tuition. "Some families just need help. They can pay some, but not all," Okonski said. "And if we don't get enrollments up, we're in trouble." Our Mother of Sorrows, at 48th Street and Lancaster Avenue, was once the largest parish in the archdiocese, Okonski said.
