Pembs fabric stars in Christmas film

David and Margaret Redpath, who owned 200-year-old Wallis Woollen Mill, near Ambleston, for many years, were puzzled when their son and granddaughter said they had spotted the fabric in a trailer for the new Warner Brothers film Fred Claus'.

The distinctive weave of bright turquoise, purple, scarlet and orange is worn by Santa's mother in the film and is unmistakably the Redpath's unique Crown Prince fabric, in a traditional Welsh tapestry design, which the couple wove to commemorate the Investiture of the Prince of Wales.

China extends ban on animation

Sarft has also increased the daily broadcast ratio to 7:3 for Chinese-made cartoons and foreign product, part of a campaign to "provide a favorable environment for the innovation of China's cartoon industry."

Previous restrictions on the denizens of Bikini Bottom and other foreign animated laffers had expanded the output of local content and continuously improved the quality of works, it said. The number of minutes of domestic toons grew 23% last year.

As well as following a tight quota system for foreign movies, China introduces regular blackout periods of foreign pics to help boost the domestic industry. Most of the titles are still available in pirate DVD shops, however.

Sarft also called for more funding from local broadcasters to buy local product.

Last week, China's General Administration of Press and Publications (GAPP) called for a ban on ghosts and monsters, or any other skeins that were there "for the sole purpose of seeking terror and horror," although it said that hugely popular titles such as "Harry Potter" would not be included in this ban, following an online outpouring of grief.

As fair opens, toy makers stress value

A year ago, parents readily splurged on their kids' toys — and the industry unleashed fancy, pricey playthings.

Hasbro brought out a talking parrot for $69.99, Spinmaster a transforming robot-helicopter for $110 — and Zizzle a pinball machine, complete with lights and sound effects, for $350.

This year, parents dealing with debt, higher energy costs and housing trouble are more reserved — and are likely to opt for budget-friendly toys that lend themselves to long-lasting play, experts say. At the American International Toy Fair, which starts Sunday, manufacturers will emphasize “good play," said Chris Byrne, an independent toy trendspotter for thetoyguy.com.

First Look: First Look: iMovie '08

Take what you know about iMovie, put it into an imaginary box, and store that box in a corner of your brain for now. When Steve Jobs unveiled iLife '08 and mentioned that Apple is “completely replacing one of the key apps with something that takes it to a whole new level," he wasn't exaggerating. iMovie '08 is a completely new video editing program that just happens to have inherited the iMovie name.

For some, the application is a welcome change. Until recently, most video has been shot using camcorders that store high-quality video on MiniDV tape, but those tapes are piling up, unedited, because of the time it takes to import and fine tune the footage. iMovie '08 is designed to make video editing simple and fast.

For people who've used iMovie in its previous iterations, this new version may be especially frustrating.

How rich do you feel?

It seems, according to most of the posts here, that feeling rich is vastly different from actually being rich.

The 'feelers' speak of happiness, and being emotionally rich, because of family, health, friends, etc., while the 'actuals', with, no doubt, a stern look, speak of working hard, and saving your money, yet, at the same time, they seem to frown upon those considered less fortunate.

Why don't they just spend some of that hard earned cash to find the happiness that the 'feelers' enjoy.

Perhaps they would be less bitter toward the segment of society who are down on their luck, or to those who choose not to try to change it.

Am I knocking those that work hard? No.

Knowing that all you own came from the fruits of your labor is very satisfying.

Wireless interface
First demo'd at the pre-show briefing, the TransferJet "Near Field" wireless technology made an unforgettable entrance. It failed to perform. Sony Electronics' Digital Imaging and Audio Division senior VP Steve Habere was quick to add that "when it works, it's great".

Barely launched during the Consumer Electronics Show, this short-range proprietary wireless technology enables users to send digital images, video or other data at more than 500 megabits per second.
