Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates and the top U.S. commander of NATO forces in Afghanistan yesterday issued a blunt assessment of the alliance's shortcomings in that country, arguing that the unwillingness of some member states to risk combat casualties is threatening NATO's future and undermining the prosecution of the Afghan war. .
Review: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Retro Studios Inc., developer of such fine titles as Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, introduces the long awaited Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Originally slated to be a Wii Launch title, the long delayed FPS (First Person Shooter) was to be the flagship title (along with The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess) that showed off the Wii's graphics, control and implementation capabilities. This entry into the legend of Samus has our hero pretty much doing what she always does. Fighting space pirates and trying to ensure that the flood of Metroid monsters doesnt invade the rest of the universe. In this title, however, the story begins with Samus being welcomed onto a military space ship, where super computer Aaroru has been corrupted as have you and the other hunters on board. Utilizing a new Phazon reactor aspect in your suit, you have been saved.
Opinion: The decline and fall of the Palm empire
Later, the founders of Palm invented the first great smart phone — essentially a Palm Pilot that made phone calls. They were cheap, simple and fun to use. The genius behind both these inventions was, of course, Jeff Hawkins (pdf format). Together with co-founder Donna Dubinsky, Hawkins launched the companies and invented the devices that transformed — and, for a time, dominated — mobile computing. The Palm Pilot was great for the same reason iPods, Macs and other Apple products are great. In each case, development was lorded over by a design and usability fascist driven by a powerful vision of the complete user experience. What went wrong? The tragic story of Palm's fall from greatness is a history of squandered resources and misplaced effort.

Goodale, fooling no one, says, "We will decide as the official opposition when we think the time is appropriate to bring the government down. When that time arrives, we will in fact do that.&8221; Read: if we went into an election now, we would be slaughtered. The LPC have decided it would be inappropriate to be slaughtered now, so they have chosen to be slaughtered later. It's called borrowed time. Posted 31/10/07 at 1:05 PM EST | Link to Comment .
US investors circle wagons, hope Fed rides to rescue
US investors endured a holiday-shortened week that left stocks mainly static despite weak economic readings that weighed on Wall Street, as hopes of fresh interest rate cuts helped shore up sentiment. Market participants said the lackluster economic news in recent days was not surprising, but that it has heightened fears of a recession. In a week shortened by Mondays public holiday, the leading blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average ended Friday almost unchanged at 12,381.02 points, up 0.27 percent from the prior Friday. The tech-rich Nasdaq composite fell 0.79 percent for the week to 2,303.35 and the broad-market Standard amp; Poors 500 index edged up 0.23 percent to 1,353.11. US stock markets have fallen heavily this year as a two-year-long housing slump shows no sign of abating any time soon and as major financial firms continue to divulge hefty losses tied to ailing mortgage investments and other exotic securities.
