| Digital imagery changes record of history
Most of the historical photos you see in this and the previous section of this year's Salina Edition were originally recorded on film and printed on silver emulsion paper. They were reproduced for the pages you've been reading using either a digital camera or a scanner to copy the original print, and computer software to sharpen and restore the image. .
Aspen Technology to be delisted from Nasdaq
The delisting comes after a series of accounting misshaps dating back several years, resulting in the firing of CEO David McQuillin in 2004. The Cambridge, Mass., company (Nasdaq: AZPN) requested an extension for filing its 2007 fourth quarter and 2008 first quarter results, as well as restatements for fiscal 2005 and 2007. Nasdaq granted an extension to Aspen until Feb. 8, but it failed to meet that deadline and its second-quarter earnings deadline. Deloitte & Touche asked not to be reappointed as Aspen's accounting firm for 2008. Chief Executive Mark Fusco said he was disappointed with the delisting, and the company may appeal to the Nasdaq Listing and Hearing Review Council. The company will most likely be traded on the Pink Sheet Electronic Quotation Service.
Ultrafast data link thrills researchers
World-best collaborative research between Australian and United States universities has taken a giant leap forward with the successful launch today of a 1Gigabit per second data connection between the two countries. The ultrabroadband optical-fibre link - roughly 250 times faster than the standard broadband connection offered in metropolitan Melbourne - was demonstrated at the University of California San Diego and at the University of Melbourne today. Using large visual-display walls of high-definition screens in both cities, still images, audio, animations and video from Australian research conducted by neuroscientist Professor Graeme Jackson and water researcher Professor John Langford were presented in both cities at the same time. Participants in San Diego were able to question Professor Langford and Professor Jackson in real time - as if they were in the same room.

Candidates offer final messages before Iowa caucus
I have always admired your family and the things they stood for. I was in college when that fatal day came and we no longer had our inspiration, your brother. I am disappointed in who you are endorsing. To think about all the times that the Clintons were here for you, and now you just put them aside. I think about it, and I thougt you were above the good old boys. Not so sure about that now. Hillary, a women. Maybe that just does not sit well with you Kennedys. I just don't understand. She is a great lady that certainly helped your party out by staying with Bill. The party owes her more than a senate seat. She should have all of you out there shouting her attributes. It was alright for Bill to be used to get votes for our new governor. He also has a short memory. I will have a hard time voting for either one of you because of this.

If you're using iPhoto 5 or an earlier version of the program, switch to edit mode, and then click on the B&W button in the editing toolbar. In iPhoto 6, switch to edit mode, open the Effects palette, and then click on the B&W button in the upper left corner of the palette. For more-dramatic results, follow the B&W effect with the Boost Color effect (click on the middle right tile), which will increase the contrast in your image and provide a very slight warming tint. Option 2: Reduce saturation Each program also includes a saturation slider, which lets you quickly eliminate color information. In iPhoto 5 or 6, open the Adjustments palette and drag the Luminance slider all the way to the left. To do the same thing in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, go to Layer: New Adjustment Layer: Hue/Saturation and click on OK.
