I'm beginning to worry that I spend too much time concerned with the technological trappings of the world around us. I think Lord Vader put it best when he admonished Imperial Admiral Motti not to be too proud of the technological terror he'd constructed—after all, the ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force. Or, for that matter, the power of the Internet to slowly suck your life away, gurgling down a series of tubes. But seriously, when you close your eyes at night and just see an endless parade of dancing cell phones, multifunction printers, and digital music players, you can be sure of one thing: your dreams are going to be seriously messed up, man.

So, you may ask, what do video camera glasses, a gaming projector, and a compact bag have in common? Other than all being featured in this week's edition of Gadgetbox, I have absolutely no idea.

Newark's Mora Motor Car Co. - 1905

As early as October 1905, a group of public-spirited Newark businessmen, all members of the Newark Board of Trade, had made contact with Mr. Samuel Hancock Mora in Rochester.

Mora was looking for a building, and even more importantly, a community to support his venture, that of building motor cars. One of members of the Board of Trade , Thomas W. Martin, had a building for rent, the former Reed Manufacturing Co. plant on the east end of Seigrist Street. The Reed Company, manufacturers of tin ware and enamelware, had vacated the wooden building in 1903 to move just west into their huge brick plant that still stands today as a warehouse owned by Graybill Enterprises.

In Rochester, S.H. Mora had left the employ of the Eastman Kodak Co. after nearly 13 years, having risen to head of sales.

Inside Iverson's block party

Before surrendering to the authorities Tuesday morning, Allen Iverson threw one last shindig for family and friends at his house Sunday night.

So, what happened that evening at the estate of the Sixers star? The following timeline was gathered with the help of surveillance cameras, audio bugs and eyewitness accounts.

Welser Wonders: Bo Ryan, Dave Odom, CSUN

Northridge has a better record than UCSB and a much better RPI. CSUN's worse loss of the year is at Washington, while the Gauchos lost to UC Irvine.

It is quite clear that the preseason expectations have continued to play a large part in these polls. UCSB was expected to win the Big West while CSUN was expected to continue their mediocrity by turning the ball over 20 times a game and getting out-rebounded by 30 a game. Luckily, it has no effect on anything and the Big West will come down to four days in Anaheim anyway. And, of course, the Matadors lost to Chicago State on Tuesday after I wrote this anyway, so there goes my fun RPI watching.

…why he doesn't take his own advice? About a month ago I was talking to a friend about hoops. What else would I talk about? Somehow we got on the topic of Texas A&M and they were wondering how good they really were.

Update: Library Has 10 Copies of "Water for Elephants"

No Zags: Candidate endorsement is one of the most antiquated and soon-to-be-extinct functions of the newspaper industry. In a world where anybody can publish any opinion they want and anyone can read it, it seems pretty silly that the "wise old minds" of an editorial board still feel the need to put a newspaper's stamp of approval on a political position. Endorsements are relics of the old-journalism past, as are editorials.

Question: I'm curious about the last sentence of No Zags' comment. Are editorials, indeed, relics. Or are the still important contributions to the public dialogue -- and help form community opinion?

Completing the home theater

For effect in the room we have got these chairs a little bit nicer than the ones I remember in the theaters but they are upholstered in the same type of material and fabric that we had. We also added brass rails and the faux painting on the walls to help again create this real theater feel.

F-STOP: How Digital Eclipsed the Film Camera

It's been a remarkable run. Daguerre developed his device for capturing images nearly 170 years ago, and since that time, and especially since erstwhile bank clerk George Eastman gave up his steady salary to form the Eastman Kodak company in 1888, the camera had almost come to symbolise personal technology, a bit of science that most could use consistently.

This became particularly true with the introduction, in the early 1930s, of the 35mm single reflex camera - the closest ancestor of the hand-held cameras of today - and also with the introduction, in 1948, of the instant picture, or Polaroid camera.
